The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture is collaborating with the Organization of American States’ Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE) and the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to host an Aviation Security Training at the Global Village Hotel in Ladyville.
Gilberto Torres, Operations Officer of Belize Aviation Security, said that the training will be focused on Security Management. It will address concepts and principles of managing aviation security operations within an international airport. There are two trainers from the United States and the training will be based on the Standards and Recommended Practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization. It will focus on protection of passengers, crew, ground personnel, the general public, aircraft and airport facilities.
Participants at the course are from the Department of Civil Aviation, Customs, Police, the Belize Defense Force, Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), Immigration, Border Management Agency, Belize Airports Authority, Belize Airport Concession Company Ltd. and local and international airlines. The course started on Monday, April 12, and will finish on Friday, March 16. At the end of the course the participants will receive a certificate of international accreditation in aviation security.
The Government of Belize reiterates its awareness that the training in the aviation security discipline is for the purpose of carrying out the overall objective of preventing, combating and eradicating terrorism in civil aviation, restoring public confidence in air travel and promoting the health of the air transport industry.
