Can anyone tell me what the weather is typically like in October?

Warm (hot to some) & dry has been my experience. It's a very slow time so it's a little quieter than other times.

October can be fine and beautiful, or you can get 10 days of non-stop drizzle and gray skies (or even worse a genuine "tropical event"). If you live here it's only a few bad days out of an otherwise incredible year - but if you have only 2 weeks for a visit you could be sorely disappointed.
