My soon to be wife and I are headed down from the Bay Area and are mixing AC with a stay inland at Chaa Creek. We have been debating whether to shorten our stay on AC by a day so that we have more time to see ruins, go hiking, go canoeing, and see the caves.

It appears that there are many day trips, but a number of the (to Tikal) seem to require air travel, and I am wondering if it is possible to catch an early boat, see these sights, and then catch a late boat back to AC.

We treasure our beach time and will be newly certified divers after 4 days at St. George's Lodge, so we're just trying to plan the best use of our time.

Any recommendations?


As a final note, we wanted to say this message board is the best we have ever seen- very, very helpful. It has done much to get us even more excited for our two week honeymoon starting in just a week. Thanks to all for contributing and making it that much more enticing.

Senor Guapo y Senora Guapa, We visited Belize last Dec. for the first time and combined a dive cert. course at Rum Point Inn near Placencia with a stay at Chan Chich Lodge in the rain forest, for 12 nights total. Both locations were sublime for nature lovers and gave us the impetus to return to Belize for concentrated diving this next trip (in 3 weeks) with the plan to see Tikal and other jungle destinations in depth (no pun intended) later. I hope that you and your novia have the same wonderful hit from Belize that we did. I don't usually return to places unless they are really special.Your question involved lots of travelling. Don't bother, stay put and go back another time or at least don't rush it.Over-planning is the death of many vacations. Belize has many options to be explored--take your time.
