Indeed, very cool!

I like Caracol of all the Belize Maya sites. A bit tough to get to but worth it.

Our most impressive site. I went yrs ago, before the road (and way before the paved road we have now) on horseback; took us 4 nights to get there from the Mtn Pine Ridge area. Road the horses into the main plaza beneath Caana, the highest temple at the site. Been incredible to watch the changed over the yrs. The Chase's have done a magnificent job out there.

Is it sensible to go there by yourself in a 4WD vehicle, or is it still recommended you go in an armed convoy?

The most recent incident involving assault & robbery on the Caracol Road occurred in December (reported in Amandala). That incident didn't involve tourists. So there is good reason to go with an armed escort.

And today, LoveFM reported an incident of robbery in Guanacaste National Park. This is the second or third such incident this year in Guanacaste.
