Looking for non-touristy accomodations on AC. Any ideas? If no such thing exists, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to basic accomodations.

Click on the Lodging link and prepare yourself for a myriad of choices! Also you can try http://www.turq.com/belizefirst/ and check out the lodging recommendations, I've found that to be a helpful tool in narrowing down the choices. Then you can come back to this board and do a search on the ones you are interested in, to see what other folks have to say about it. I think you will find it difficult to decide as all these places have a special charm all their own!

waterbug...not sure where you have traveled before. We had been to the Mexican Riviera/Cancun/Cozumel numerous times, as well as Puerto Vallarta before going to AC for the first time last September. To us, it was a perfect time to go..not as crowded as it would be during "peak season", so we did not find it touristy at all. I know this sounds ridiculous, because there were lots of tourists, but it didn't APPEAR that way. Not a lot of crowded streets, everyone was dressed so casually, and no waiting at any restaurants, etc. The island is so small it is easily navigated by foot, bicycle or golf cart. You don't have taxi's or buses wizzing by. Suggest you look through the lodging section, as already mentioned. Not sure what your price range is, but we stayed at the Seven Seas Resort last September, and loved it.Nothing luxurious or fancy by any means, but the price is right if you want oceanfront rooms (only 12 units, 2 buildings, 3 floors each with 2 rooms side by side on each floor-see their web-site under lodging).North of town, near the "cut" in the river that takes you to the north end of the island..it is more isolated, but we enjoyed being closer to "town". SS's has a living area with couch and chairs, dining area with table and 4 chairs, nothing special, and a kitchen area with stove, fridge and microwave, all silverware, pots, pans, coffe pot, etc, Bedroom is air-conditioned, but the rest of the unit gets a good breeze.Great porch, great ocean view. A Gaz Cooper dive shop out in front on the pier. Pool in back, which was the only draw back for us...enclosed on all sides by either buildings or fencing and it got HOT! Even tho we love it hot,the pool gets no breeze. We are still looking for a place to stay in the fall and think we are going to stay at either Paradise Villas or Tropica Beach Resort..great oceanfront pools! They are more expensive than SS's. Small hotels in town, Rubies and Holiday Hotel,Sunbreeze, etc. Happy hunting!

I am going in August5-13 and I am staying at seven seas. It seems nice but I didn't like the comment from Mary about the pool, I thought it was on the beach ohno, I guess I will have to cope now.

Contact Caye Management -- They are on this website, and they have a variety of listings, private homes for rent, etc. Or write an e-mail to them at:

Is there a *bad* place to stay on AC? [Linked Image]

Waterbug, have a look at Brianna's Beach House. A privately owned 2 bedroom beachfront home.

Pirate..can't go back till late September or early October! Would love to meet ya!
Also, Brianna's house does not have a pool if that is a must, as it is for us. The pool at SS's is great, but is not oceanfront.
