Elbert Why are these beautiful creatures called golden fronted woodpeckers? There is so little gold and so many other distinguishing marks such as the red whiskers at the base of his beak.

Yep, I hear ya all the other names are so obvious, if you look close there is a faint gold on his front.
could be there are so many that look alike and got the obvious names already??
