I have a 4 months old Dalmtion puppy . . I love her with all my heart and would only be willing to give her up to someone with a good home. She loves kids and is the prettiest dalmation in the world!

Be sure the new home has a fenced yard and the folks are willing to give her lots of time, love, walking and playing. They need to promise that they will keep up her shots, get her fixed etc. Your heart must be breaking having to give her up.

Typically they are not ideal family pets either.

I had my Dalmation for 15 years, he passed away last July at 15 1/2. He loved children and was a big part of the grand children's lives.
The first few years he was rambunctious, but settled down and became a great house dog who loved everyone.
Wish I lived there full time, I would take her in a minute.

Dallys are great dogs. Super high energy. Fairly independent, which is sometimes confused with stupidity. But trust me, they are not stupid, especially when it comes to finding food. They love to eat - anything and everything. They are quite sensitive dogs and don't respond well to force or punitive training methods. They need to be socialised well or they can become snappy and defensive. They are easily distracted but highly motivated by play if they are taught to interact positively with their people early on. With tons of physical and mental stimulation, they make very attractive and rewarding pets. Without a high level of commitment by the owner to provide these things they can be destructive, demanding and rather unpleasant. They don't suit or like lazy owners. They can have health issues due to the selection for spots rather than temperament or health among breeders. I hope this Dally finds the right owner. So many people buy them because they are 'cute' but have no idea how to care for them.

Our first family pet was a dalmation. She was definitly not stupid, in fact a very bright dog. I understand they have not been known to be a good dog with children, but that was not our experience. Colly is probably correct, it is in the training as well. Hope the little guy finds a good home, they are really lovely dogs.

Collyk:

Not to disagree with you at all but all those statements could be true of any island dog.

How sad the pup is being re-homed - I sure hope she goes to someone who has interest in giving her proper attention. Our family dog of 15 years was a purebred dalmation and he was the best dog ever - 80 pounds too. We were three small kids when we first got him and he was GREAT with us and all our friends. Of course our parents took time to work with him and us so he had proper raising. Extremely smart, sensitive and a great family pet.
