After recently attending an open forum by Sea Trek and hearing about their proposed site at Mexico Rocks, I am concerned.
I fear that allowing numerous individuals to walk along the seafloor and stir up sediment constantly will have an adverse effect on the marine life of the area, especially coral which can be subject to sediment loading.
Granted, snorkel and scuba programs are not perfect, occasional sediment stir-up is not unheard of, but that is a non-intentional, accidental occurrence and is limited, and can be negated with proper supervision.
Sea Trek is direct walking on the ground, crushing potential marine life and micro-organisms and stirring up sediment which can find its way onto coral heads. Seeing as the island relies on the reef for everything, is this proposal by Sea Trek wise?
I just want to hear what other people think.
Thank you for any insight.
