We just returned from our first visit to Ambergris Caye and loved it! We stayed at Ramon's Village and only ate breakfast there. We found a delightful little bar/restaurant just north of our resort called the Hurricane Bar that was fantastic! We ended up eating most of our meals there. Excellent food and drinks with very friendly nice people like "Quedice" the bartender! My husband did 12 dives with Amigos del Mar and thought they were great and also some through the motel dive shop. Have a great time!

quick correction, they go every other hour until 3pm i believe then its every hour.

Id say get bikes, i ride into town all the time, i live about a mile up on the beach from akbol. Its a nice ride, if the sand is too soft you just take the road right by palapa. I personally ride the beach until i get to palapa (right next to akbol) then take the road, thats just what works best for me right now.

From a recent visitor: Go and rent a golf cart so you can experience the whole island plus you can run into town for a quick breakfast or baked goods. Worth the time and money!
We did not dive with Chuck and Robbies but I VERY much suggest Ecologic divers. I am a very experienced diver and my new wife finished up her cert with them and I can not say enough about Ian the owner. Another reason for a golf cart.
I would wait till you get into town before you decide on a dive shop and check them out in person. DO not prepay before your visit, make your plans when you get to SP on just about everything everyone will be happy to make you happy. That was the best advice I got before my trip from the locals. Some of the dive shops do not have a full time staff but I do know Ecologic does.
Make sure you visit the Palapa bar on the north side.
