Walking up the beach in the morning after the storm its dramatic ,the difference between erosion of the beach without mangroves and zero erosion behind the lots that still had mangroves in front.
I want to plant some in front of my house but realistically i think I'll die of old age before they would begin to protect my property.
I could be wrong about the slow growth factor, but it seems that a large part of why we shouldn't cut them , because they take sooooo long to grow back.

No question mangroves provide protection and have seen the difference with and out after large hurricanes and it is impressive. Start planting, takes a few yrs and they make nice hedges.

Tremendous amount of beach erosion around town, where there aren't any mangroves. I't getting difficult to pass between sea and fence at "Bait 'n Tackle", where in any case Tanisha's dock only leaves a couple of yards.

When you say there was a lot of damage, how much do you mean?
