Great new initiative - I have long wished to learn to sail (inside the reef) - will the sailing club be open to teaching lessons for beginners?

Hi Nick,

Yes, the club's ethos is to encourage participation in all things sailing which will mean helping out the newbies. When things become a little more established something will be done for sure.

In the mean time the best way to learn is to try and get a ride on one of the boats on race day. If not for the race I'm sure someone will kindly take you out for a quick spin when they have finished.

Please come down and have a chat with us this Sunday.

Best way to learn to sail is go and see Paul at Sailsports Belize. Located at Caribbean villas where the Sailing club is located. They have been teaching on the island for many years. Riding on a boat is great but better to get a lesson from a professional.

Just a reminder... it's the inaugural race this Sunday!

Starting from Caribbean Villas, to the Palapa Bar and back - hopefully windy enough to be by the bar in time for the World Cup final.

Skippers briefing in the clubhouse at 9am, with the race starting at 10am sharp. If you're not sailing, it should still be fun to watch.

Details, again, are on Facebook:

Hopefully see some of you there!

There is still a free Hobie Wave available for anyone who would like to take part. It's on a first come first served basis so if you would like to secure the use of it for the race please post a comment on this thread.

PS... there's a spare (& free) Hobie Cat if anyone wants to come and have a blast up and down the lagoon in the race. Details on the Facebook page.

Guaranteed more fun than doing nothing on a Sunday morning ;-)
