Greetings to all..

Myself (English) and my girlfriend (Canadian) are considering moving to Belize for a more relaxed and sunny way of life.

We are thinking of perhaps coming for a year to start with and see how we go, we are both qualified Chiropractors as well as Sports masseurs among other things.

We would be looking to find work whilst we're out there and i wondered if any of you fine people could point us in the right direction on how best to go about this? So any work or living/accommodation contacts? Are there any hotels that might need therapist on this island or around it? just any general recommendations to keep the costs down would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks

I don't think we have either specialist service at the moment (lots of great massage therapists though), but you'd probably need to set up your own business rather than hope one hotel could keep you employed. That will involve the investment in work permits, funded yourselves, and probably taking at least a month from arrival to attain.

medical licensing in belize is tricky... to my knowledge no Can/Am/Brit foreign physicians have been licensed in recent memory because of competition issue with local physicians. Belize will grant temp licenses for those performing volunteer services. Not sure how chiropractic works in Belize... not sure if they have a licensing body or if its covered under the Belize College of Physicians. perhaps you can check with the san pedro chiro clinic? or is it gone?

There was an American chiropractor licensed on the island until fairly recently, but she went back to the US for personal reasons. So it is possible although I don't know the process.

Thanks for the information.

This is merely a thought in the ether currently.

I cannot find any website/email contact for the san pedro chiropractic clinic, any ideas?

I personally am happy to do Chiropractic voluntarily and something else to make a living. Not interested in money, just a great way of life. (I guess your probably over saturated with Dive instructors?!) Happy to be a barmen really!

Sounds to me like the American chiro who went back to the states has the potential to be, by far, your greatest source of info and advice. I'd do whatever possible to find out who that was and contact them. The posters on this board know a hell of a lot of people on the island. Maybe someone knows who it was.

Thank you all for being kind enough to take the time to help me out, very much appreciated and I now have a contact for the chiropractor in question.

Hope to meet you all one day!

Kind regards

Being a Dive Instructor or Barman you may find more difficult to become than a specialist in the field of Chiropractic services. Its extremely difficult to get a permit to work in any field that can be performed by a Belizean. Those two are really tough, as is any Hotel or Restaurant or Tour Guide work.

You can find Patti Manners on Facebook if you use facebook and send her a message. She was a licensed Chiropracter here and returned to the US.
