Placencia Assassins drill Nizhee 1-0 to lead Belize Bank Superleague football
The Placencia Assassins once again lead the Belize Bank Super League football competition after they blanked Nizhee Corozal 1-0 at the Placencia football field on Sunday.
Jason Westby scored the winning goal in the 78th minute to lead the Placencia Assassins to a 1-0 win over Nizhee Corozal at the Placencia football field.
In Belize City, Santa Elena Synergy ran over Belize United 4-2 at the MCC garden. Santa Elena’s Dean Flowers blasted in the first goal past goalie Stanley “Jordan” Reneau in the very 1st minute of play. Kevin Rowland and Ashton Lewis led Belize United counterattack supported by midfielders Wayne Miller and Marshall Nunez, but no impression on the Santa Elena defense anchored by Leonard Lennon with the help of Wilbert Caretella and Norman Neal and goalie Wilbert Cortez handled all other challenges.
Tony Gonzalez delivered Santa Elena’s 2nd goal in the 16th minute of play and they led 2-zip until Kevin Rowland finished a play by Wayne Miller to put Belize United on the scoreboard in the 40th minute of play.
In the 2nd half, Brandon Peyrefitte scored Santa Elena’s 3rd goal in the 53rd minute, and the Santa Elena squad led 4-1 when Peyrefitte scored again in the 59th minute. The visitors held on to their 4-1 lead until injury time when Rowland scored his 2nd goal as Santa Elena went on to post the 4-2 big W.
City Boys FC upset Hattieville United 3-1 at the Hattieville football field when international striker Deon Macaulay scored the City Boys’ 1st goal in the 28th minute of play to lead 1-0 at the half.
In the 2nd half, Macaulay set table for the 2009 1st Division MVP Dalton Cayetano to blast in a 2nd goal in the 55th minute, then the City Boys’ defenders goofed in handling the ball and the referee ruled penalty. Jarret Davis pulled one back with the conversion for Hattieville in the 62nd minute, but Macaulay soon restored the 2 goal lead when he drilled home a 3rd goal in the 65th minute for the 3-1 win.
The tournament is winding down to its last week of regular season games on Sunday, July 18, when Nizhee Corozal will host Belize United at the Ricalde Stadium, Santa Elena Synergy take on the Placencia Assassins at the Santa Elena field and City Boys will host defending sub-champs San Felipe Barcelona at the MCC garden.http://www.belizetimes.bz/2010/07/1...o-lead-belize-bank-superleague-football/
