Hattieville United & Brown Bombers win in BDFA U-15 football
The Hattieville United and Brown Bombers U-15 teams both posted wins in the Belize District Football Association summer football competition while the Ladyville Rural Strikers and the SCA girls drew 1-1, and Brown Bombers U-19 won 5-3 over San Pedro Tropical at the MCC garden on Saturday.
Ladyville’s Mertell Bailey and Sherren Flores took the game to SCA from the getgo, but they could not get by SCA defenders Inga Woods, Leanne Murray and Diedra Gill who frustrated their every foray, while SCA goalie Ashley White came out of her goal to forestall many an attack and keep the ball game to a nil zip draw up to the half time break.
Sherren Flores drew first blood for Ladyville in the 2nd half, but the SCA’s Aaliyah Williams and Christian Rodriguez broke up the Ladyville attacks at midfield to create plays for Sheida Young to equalize the score 1-1 before the long whistle.
In Game 2, the Hattieville United U-15 boys posted their 2nd back to back win: 1-0 over Albert’s FC. Gary Young and Jamal Augustine led the Albert’s offensive with the help of midfielders Raheem Flowers, Tariq and Alvin Westby, but could not get by Hattieville’s Leon Smith who cleared away every challenge to keep the ball game to a nil-zip draw up to the half time break.
In the 2nd half, Hattieville’s Richard Waight scored the winning goal when he lobbed the ball over the head of Albert’s goalie George Belisle, and the ball just slipped under the crossbar and into the net.
In Game 3, the Brown Bombers U-15 bombed the Ladyville Rural Strikers 2-1. Devaugn Zuniga collected a rebound from a shot by Jarron Myvett and booted the ball into the back of the net to lead 1-0 at the half time break. In the 2nd half, Naim Wilson scored a 2nd goal for the Bombers to lead 2-1, but Ladyville’s Leon Sedacey managed to score a consolation goal before the long whistle.
In Game 4, the Brown Bombers U-19 blasted San Pedro’s Tropical FC 5-3 with Kendice “Suba” Williams leading the attack to score the 1st goal. Bombers’ midfielder Andres Makin set table for Clinton “Pin” Jorgenson to add a 2nd goal and Avian “Chi-chis” Crawford’s individual effort on the left flank produced a 3rd goal for a 3-zip lead before the break.
In the 2nd half, the Tropical squad came out storming and Steven Arnold scored their 1st goal. Travis Eiley added a 2nd goal for the visitors and George Carlos Barrera blasted in a 3rd to tie the score: 3-3.
Clinton Jorgenson returned the favor to Andres Makin, who ran away from the Tropical defenders to beat the goalie and add a 4th goal for the Bombers. Jorgenson scored his 2nd goal of the match for the 5-3 win.
