Mirage Lady Rebels mute the telephone giant in ladies softball
The 2010 Belize City Female Softball Competition continued last Friday July 16, at Rogers Stadium the home of softball in Belize between the defending Belize City and National Softball Champion Mirage Lady Rebels and Telemedia. Telemedia got on the scoreboard first when in the top of the 2nd inning when pitcher Mary Flowers reached first base on second baseman Shelly Smith’s fielding error. Flowers later scored when left fielder Martha Rhys drilled a Lanisha Jones pitch back into centre field that scored the first run of the game.
In the bottom of the same inning and with two outs, Mirage Lady Rebels’ Lanisha Jones in helping her own cause lined a Mary Flowers pitch into right field for a double. This was then followed by left fielder Christine Avila’s run producing single into centre field. At the end of the end it was 1-1. In the top of the 3rd inning, Telemedia’s second baseman Tanisha Banner opened the scoring when she reached first base on a hit by pitch advanced to second base on a pass ball and then scored off first baseman Earline Belisle, grounder to first base, to give her team a temporary lead.
Mirage Lady Rebels in the bottom of the 3rd inning tied the score at 2-2 when second baseman Shelly Smith opened the inning with a single. Smith later scored when catcher Lisa Jones singled to right field. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Mirage Lady Rebels scored five times when nine batters went to the plate. Three back-to-back to back bunts by Samantha Casey, Joline Davis and Lisa Jones followed by first baseman Doreth Young’s two run single staged the uprising. The inning continued when Sharette Jones reached on an infield hit followed by right fielder Freda Garri’s two run single.
Telemedia replied with two runs in the top of the 6th inning when centre fielder Barbara Cadle opened the inning with a double to right field and later scored when pitcher Mary Flowers singled to left field and later scored on the veteran catcher Ruth Lamb’s single to left field.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Mirage Lady Rebels replied with a run of its own when shortstop Joline Davis reached on a base on balls followed by Doreth Young’s run producing single to left field. On the line for Mirage Lady Rebels it was 8 runs on 11 hits with Lanisha Jones picking up the win, while Telemedia scored 4 runs on 5 hits and Mary Flowers was charged with the loss.http://www.guardian.bz/all-sports/2...e-the-telephone-giant-in-ladies-softball
