Yesterday the United States Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central America and the Caribbean, Julissa Reynoso sat down with members of the media to discuss the purpose of her three day working visit to Belize. Following the round table discussion Prime Minister Dean Barrow signed an amendment to the Letter of Agreement for the Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI). The signing provides an additional two point five million U-S dollars in CARSI funding which will be used for Improved Border Inspection, Improved Policing/Police Equipment, Vetted Units and Capacity Enhancement. The Rule of Law Initiative, a two year program being carried out under the CARSI Initiative, also received over nine hundred thousand U-S dollars. The program will be implemented by the American Bar Association. During the first three years of this initiative, the United States of America has provided five point six U-S dollars to the Government of Belize to strengthen and integrate security efforts and improve citizen safety.
