I watched an incredible episode of Bone Detectives on the Discovery Channel last night. It was about the Midnight Terror Cave in Belize. I found it fascinating - apparently it was a cave used for sacrifice by the Mayans and still contains numerous skeletons. Curious if anyone on this forum has ever visited or if it is even possible to visit. Thanks!

Perhaps it was Actun Tunichil Muknal cave. Popular tour on the Belize mainland. Tons of caves with Maya remnants in them to explore on the mainland!

I don't think they are the same cave as I've seen images from the Midnight Terror Cave and it is definitely not like ATM. I have not heard of this cave being part of any organised tour or being open to the general public but I know that people have visited and photographed it. There are lots of amazing caves in Belize, such as Actun Tunichil Muknal cave as mentioned by Barbara that can be visited on organised tours. I've been to ATM and while caving is certainly not my cup of tea, it was definitely a fantastic experience.

The ATM cave was mentioned and briefly shown. Looks like alot of fun. This cave was reached by 4WD via narrow logging roads which ended abruptly. Then they had to walk 2 miles via a walking trail through the jungle to reach. There wasn't any water flowing into it like the ATM cave and to enter you had to repel down about 100 feet. But once inside, they found about 80-100 skeletons in different forms - they concluded it was a place for sacrifice - in this case to stop a drought that was ongoing.

Sounds creepy. I much prefer the ceremonial caves than the sacrificial caves. Heavy vibes......
