Just to get an idea spending wise.. what do things like meals cost on the island? I am talking about a good but reasonable meal (not the most gourmet places on the island)

Also, whats the cost of a beer at a bar, and also if you buy a case for your room? Are there a lot of happy hours or specials at places or not?

Thanks a bunch!
Andrea

Hi, just got back from AC so I am still fresh with the cost of things. For breakfast, Estelles, $10 US includes coffee, lunch at Papis for $6 - $8 US (snapper in garlic and wine sauce, yummee) dinner at La Margerita $15 (Laurie and I agreed they had the best margeritas). This does not include drinks. I expected to pay a lot more and didn't. Very pleasantly surprised at the prices. Also, you can do cheap dinners off the venders carts. Burrito $2 US (best I've had). Sweet Basil - best burger in AC - $7 US. Great wine too - the owner actually brought one of her waiters to France to study wine. Jambel Jerk - $10 US for lunch (jerk chicken that put hair on my chest). Hope this helps a bit.

Belikin beer is $2 US at most bars. Some bars had a few other bottled beers (heiny, guiness, ...) for ~$3 US, but once you taste the Belikin I cant imagine you'd want to drink anything else. Although I did meet a guy at Ramons the other day who couldnt even finish his first Belikin and went to the grocery store and cleaned out their entire supply of Budweiser. I feel sick just thinking about that notion. To each his own. Anyway, the Belikin has the bodyand flavors of a Sam Adams (Lager) but with a smoother finish. I personally like the Premium (bottled) better than the draught. When you get to the international airport in Belize City, follow "Jet" (a nice little guy who reminds me of Tatoo from Fantasy Island) to his bar "Jet's" and try one right away! He'll be drumming up business at the baggage claim area.

We had 3 meals at Fido's and I thought they were all great. Fairly good prices too.

If it's budget you want, the Lion's Club Bar BQ on Fri and Sat. nites. Absolutely not big on ambiance, but great chicken, moist and tender, with a plate of beans and cole slaw....$3.50

What about costs for rum drinks? Any special happy hours not to be missed? Also, is there a recommended rum on the island and what does it cost, or should I bring a bottle with me? Thanks!
