High School Basketball at the Belize City Centre

The 2010 Central Region Secondary Schools Basketball Competition finally opened on Tuesday November 2, at the Belize City Centre. The competition was scheduled to open last week but had to be postponed because of the passage of Hurricane Richard. In the female game, St. Catherine Academy defeated Canaan Seventh Day Adventist School by the score of 57 to 15.

The top scorers for St. Catherine Academy were Kursha Pollard with 24 points and Gilda Estrada with 13 points. In the male game, Canaan Seventh Day Adventist defeated Ladyville Technical High School by the score of 55 to 48. The top scorers for Canaan Seventh Day Adventist were Winston Reynolds with 19 points and Elwin Pollard with 15 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Ladyville Technical High School were Brandon Harris with 15 points and Alex Gordon with 12 points.

SCA girls blow away Canaan High girls 57-15 in CSSSA basketball

[Linked Image] The St. Catherine Academy girls blew away the Canaan 7th Day Adventist High School girls 57-15 when the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association CSSSA basketball competition began at the Belize City Center on Tuesday, November 2.

SCA's Kursha Pollard scored the first lay-up over easy and tossed in 3 more buckets in the 1st quarter, while Gilda Estrada added another 7pts, Chelsi Noralez chipped in 3pts and Kafira Gill added a bucket. Canaan High's Jehaud Broaster led her squad with 5pts and Nicole Diego added a bucket, but the SCA girls were up 20-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Kursha added 8pts more in the 2nd quarter, Gilda tossed in another bucket, while the SCA girls chopping and stealing the ball forced the Canaan High girls to commit so many turnovers that they were completely shut-down, while the SCA girls romped to a 30-7 lead at the half time break.

Chelsi Noralez scored 3pts more in the 3rd quarter, Kursha added 6pts more, and Gilda and Kafira each tossed in a bucket each to lead 43-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter when only Nicole Diego scored a bucket for the Canaan girls.

The SCA bench players got some court time in the 4th quarter, and Renata Samuels and Sahar Vasquez scored a bucket each, while Kursha, Gilda, and Kafira each added a bucket for the 57-15 beat down. Nicole Diego and Rochelle Garcia scored
the Canaan High girls' last 2 buckets.

Kursha Pollard top-scored the game with 24pts, while Gilda Estrada scored 13pts and Kafira Gill and Chelsi Noralez scored 6pts each.

Canaan 7th Day Adventist boys outlast Ladyville Tech 55-48 in CSSSA basketball

[Linked Image] The Canaan 7th Day Adventist High School boys outlasted the Ladyville Technical High School boys 55-48 when the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association CSSSA basketball competition began at the Belize City Center on Tuesday, November 2.

Ladyville's Bubbles Harris tossed in the first hoop and team captain Denroy McCord laid up another, while Canaan High's Kevin Hamilton scored their first point from the charity stripe and Winston Reynolds added 5pts to tie the ball game at 6-6 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Canaan High's Elwin Pollard stunned the Ladyville defence by draining 2 long treys to score 10 pts in the 2nd quarter, Winston Reynolds and Dorian Dyer each followed suite with another long and Isaac Lambey tossed in bucket to lead 26-18 at the half time break.

Harris had responded with another 3pts, while McCord and Gordon added 4pts each.

Franklin and Arnold each scored 3pts for Ladyville in the 3rd quarter, while Gordon and Harris added a bucket apiece, but they were down 27-39 at the end of the 3rd quarter, after Winston Reynolds added 6pts more for Canaan High, while Jamaal Latchman, Pollard and Hamilton each tossed in a bucket.

The Ladyville boys out-scored the Canaan boys 21-16 in money time, as 'bubbles' Harris drained in another 2 long treys to finish with 15pts and Gordon followed suit with another trey, McCord added 4pts to finish with 10pts, and D. Courtenay scored Ladyville's last 3pts from the charity stripe.

The Canaan high boys stayed on top; as Kevin Hamilton also drained in a long trey to score 5pts in the last quarter, he had 8pts total. Reynolds also drained in his 2nd long trey to top-score the game with 19pts. Elwin Pollard scored 4pts to finish with 15pts, while Kelvin Todd tossed in 2 buckets and Jerris Roca hit a jump shot for the 55-48 win.

The Central Region Secondary Schools Basketball Competition continues at the Belize City Centre. The competition continued on Tuesday November 9, with two more games on the schedule. In the female game, Pallotti High School defeated Anglican Cathedral College by the score of 31 to 12. The top scorers for Pallotti High School were Sharney Chen with 7 points and Shennelle Lord with 5 points, while the top scorers for Anglican Cathedral College were Shantel Lambey with 6 points and Kaylie Bailey with 4 points.

In the male game, Sadie Vernon Technical High School defeated Nazarene High School by the score of 72 to 56. The top scorers for Sadie Vernon Technical High School were Kashief Thomas with 31 points and London Reneau with 12 points. For Nazarene High School, the top scorers were Alejandro Baptist with 26 points and Anthony Neal with 16 points.

On Monday November 8, in the first male game, Gwen Lizarraga High School defeated Ladyville Technical High School by the score of 69 to 39. The top scorers for Gwen Lizarraga High School were Matthew Young with 21 points and Akeem Trapp with 10 points, while the top scorers for Ladyville Technical High School were Alex Gordon with 16 points and Denroy McCord with 8 points.

In the second male game, Anglican Cathedral College defeated Canaan Seventh Day Adventist by the score of 61 to 55. The top scorers for Anglican Cathedral College were Travis Bernardez with 21 points and Shaquille Smith with 19 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Canaan Seventh Day Adventist were Winston Reynolds with 25 points, and Kevin Hamilton with 10 points.

On Thursday November 4, in the first of two male games played, Nazarene High School defeated Canaan Seventh Day Adventist by the score of 54-52. The top scorers for Nazarene High School were Alejandro Baptist with 25 points and Anthony Neal with 20 points. For Canaan Seventh Day Adventist, the top scorers were Winston Reynolds with 27 points and Kevin Hamilton with 16 points.

In the second game, Sadie Vernon Technical High School defeated Anglican Cathedral College by the score of 68 to 39. The top scorers for Sadie Vernon Technical High School were Kashief Thomas with 19 points and Peter McKoy with 12 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Anglican Cathedral College were Shaquille Smith with 11 points and Travis Bermudez with 9 points.

On Wednesday November 3, in the female game, Gwen Lizarraga High School defeated Wesley College by the score of 40 to 9. The top scorer for Gwen Lizarraga High School was Glenda Torres with 24 points and for Wesley College the top scorer was Anna Pinto with 5 points. In the male game, Gwen Lizarraga High School also defeated Wesley College by the score of 67 to 55. The top scorers for Gwen Lizarraga High School were Akeem Trapp with 16 points and Matthew Young with 13 points. For Wesley College, the top scorers were Vince Young with 16 points and Kaleem Loredo with 10 points.

The Central Region Secondary Schools Basketball Competition continued at the Belize City Centre over the last week of play. The competition continued on Monday November 15, with two more games on the schedule. In the female game, Pallotti High School defeated Canaan Seventh Day Adventist by the score of 27 to 7. The top scorers for Pallotti High School were Khadejah Wilson with 11 points and Daneesha Staine with 8 points, while the top scorer for Canaan Seventh Day Adventist was Jehaud Broaster with 7 points.

In the male game, Wesley College defeated Anglican Cathedral College by the score of 71 to 39. The top scorers for Wesley College were Brian White with 20 points and Vince Young with 17 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Anglican Cathedral College were Shaquille Smith and Travis Bernardez with 11 points. On Friday November 12, in the female game, St. Catherine Academy defeated Anglican Cathedral College by the score of 35 to 9. The top scorers for St. Catherine Academy were Gilda Estrada with 16 points and Kursha Pollard with 12 points, while the top scorer for Anglican Cathedral College was Kayla Bailey with 7 points.

In the male game, Sadie Vernon Technical High School defeated Gwen Lizarraga High School by the score of 61-52. The top scorers for Ladyville Technical High School were Kashief Thomas with 20 points and Lincey Lopez with 10 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Gwen Lizarraga High School were Matthew Young with 21 points and Akeem Trapp with 19 points. On Thursday November 11, in the female game, Wesley College defeated Canaan Seventh Day Adventist by the score of 30 to 12. The top scorer for Wesley College was Anna Pinto with 17 points, and the top scorer for Canaan Seventh Day Adventist was Jehaud Broaster with 6 points.

In the male game, it was Nazarene High School over Wesley College by the score of 65 to 62. The top scorers for Nazarene High School were Alejandro Baptist with 34 points and Anthony Neal with 7 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Wesley College were Vince Young and Brian White with 17 points.

On Wednesday, November 10, in the female competition game played, Gwen Lizarraga High School defeated St. Catherine Academy by the score of 35 to 20. The top scorers for Gwen Lizarraga High School were Glenda Torres with 21 points and Adreanna Meighan with 13 points, while the top scorer for St. Catherine Academy was Kursha Pollard with 13 points.

In the male game, Anglican Cathedral College defeated Ladyville Technical High School by the score of 82 to 45. The top scorers for Anglican Cathedral College were Shaquille Smith with 19 points and Travis Bernardez with 18 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Ladyville Technical High School were Denroy McCord with 15 points and Alex Gordon and Brandon Harris with 10 points.

Pallotti & SCA girls win 2 each in CSSSA basketball

[Linked Image] [Linked Image] The Pallotti High School and St. Catherine Academy girls both have posted 2 wins in the Central Secondary School Sports Association (CSSSA) basketball competition at the Belize City Center this past week, while the Wesley College and Gwen Lizarraga High School girls also enjoyed wins.
The Pallotti High School girls romped to a 27-7 win over the Canaan 7th Day Adventist High School girls on Monday. Khadejah Wilson led the attack with 11pts, Shinelle Lord added 8pts, Anna Ma was good for 6 pts and Sharney Chen tossed in one bucket. Jehaud Broaster scored all 7pts for Canaan High.

The Pallotti girls also won 31-13 over the Anglican Cathedral College on Tuesday evening. Shinelle Lord and Asha Castillo led Pallotti with 7 pts each. Shinelle sank a long trey in the 3rd quarter. Sharony Chen scored 2 buckets as they led 6-1 in the 1st quarter and when Asha Castillo drained in a long trey in the 2nd quarter and Jinelle Pott added another bucket, they were up 12-3 at the half.
Anna Ma added 6 pts in the 2nd half and Khadejah Wilson tossed in one more bucket to lead 21-7 in the third quarter and Asha Castillo added 2 buckets in the 4th quarter.
ACC's Shantell Lambey drained in 2 long treys in money time but it was too little too late. Keylie Lambey had only scored 2 buckets, Giselly Rosalez tossed in one basket and Sheranne James scored one free throw.
The SCA girls posted their 2nd win: 35-9 over the ACC girls last Friday evening. Gilda Estrada led the SCA attack with 8pts in the 1st quarter and Kursha Pollard and Christi Noralez added a bucket each as they led 12-0 in the 1st quarter ACC's Keylie Bailey scored 5pts and Shantell Lambey added a bucket, but Kursha Pollard added 2 bucket to give SCA a 16-7 lead at the half. Kursha added 2 more buckets and Gilda Estrada and Kafira Gill added a bucket each to lead 24-7 in the 3rd quarter.
Gilda Estrada scored 6pts in the 4th quarter to finish with 16 pts and Kursha had 12 as Keylie Bailey scored a final bucket for ACC.
The SCA girls lost to four time national champs the Gwen Lizarraga High School girls 20-35 last Wednesday. Glenda Torres led the Gwen Liz girls with 21 pts, and Adreanna Meighan added another 13pts. Kursha Pollard scored 13pts for SCA. The Wesley College girls enjoyed a 30-12 win against the Canaan 7th Day Adventist high school girls last Thursday. Anna Pinto led the Wesley girls with 2 buckets in the 1st quarter and hit a long trey as she added 9pts in the 2nd quarter to lead 19-7 at the half. Sutherland and Samuels added 2 buckets each to lead 24-9 in the 3rd quarter. Jehaud Broaster led the Canaan girls with 6 pts, Rochelle Garcia tossed in 2 buckets and Raven Young added 2 free throws.

Sadie Vernon & Gwen Lizarraga boys win 4 each to lead CSSSA basketball

The 2008 national champions, the Sadie Vernon High School boys look to repeat as champions of the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association when they picked up their 4th win at the Belize City Center on Tuesday.

The Sadie Vernon boys got the easy bye to their 4th win when the Ladyville Technical High School boys were a no show for their scheduled game on Tuesday, November 23.

The Sadie Vernon boys had romped to their third win in a 61-52 upset of the defending city champions, the Gwen Lizarraga High School boys on Friday, November 12. Kashief Thomas led Sadie Vernon with 22 pts, Landon Reneau added 13pts, Andrew Ortiz tossed in 10pts, Linsey Lopez added 8pts eight and Calvin

Tench chipped in 6pts. Matthew Young led Gwen Liz with 22pts, Akeem Trapp added 17pts, Travis Gabourel 4pts, Bryton Meighan drained in a long trey and Raheem Flowers and Joseph Sutherland each tossed in a bucket.

The Gwen Liz boys enjoyed their 4th win 57-50 against the Anglican Cathedral College boys on Monday, November 22. Matthew Young led Gwen Liz with 17 pts, Akeem "Timmy" Trapp and Dijon Smith each added 10 pts; Joseph Sutherland tossed in 7pts, Raheem Flowers added 6pts and Malcolm Robateau - 4pts.

Shaquille Smith led ACC with 16pts and Travis Bernardez scored 14pts, while Dijonne Ramclam scored 8pts, Brandon Murillo tossed in 7pts and Jamie Bradley -4pts.
The Gwen Liz boys had also blown away the Canaan 7th Day Adventist High School boys last Wednesday. Matthew Young led with 19 pts while Travis Gabourel added 11pts. Kevin Hamilton led Canaan High with 21pts and Winston Reynolds added 20pts.
The Wesley College boys posted their 2nd win 67-56 over the Canaan 7th Day Adventist on Monday, November 22. Vince Young led with 19pts, while Rahyme Sacasa drained in 2 long treys to score 10pts and Eyan Rene added 9pts, and K.

Lorenzo - 7pts. Kevin Hamilton led Canaan High with 19pts, Winston Reynolds added 18pts while Dorian Dyer drained in 4 treys for 12pts.

The Wesley boys also won 71-39 over the ACC boys last Monday, with Brian White leading with 20pts, while Vince Young scored 17pts. ACC's Shaquille Smith and Travis Bernardez scored 11pts each.

The Nazarene High School posted their 3rd win: 72-41 over the Ladyville Tech boys last Tuesday. Alejandro Baptist led the Nazarene boys with 19pts while Avery Gordon, Kadeem Courtney and Anthony Neal scored 9pts each. Alex Gordon led the Ladyville boys with 13pts, and Denroy McCord added 12pts.
