Annual Sagitun Banana Classic this Sunday
The 6th Annual Sagitun Banana Classic is set for this Sunday November 7, in Independence Village. The Banana Classic is organised by the Sagitun Cycling Club under the regulations of the International Cycling Union and the Belize Cycling Association.
The first race of the day is scheduled to commence at 9:00 am in the Junior/Youth category. This category will feature a total distance of 55 miles (5 laps). The registration fee for this category is $20.00. In the Females, Masters Categories 4 and 5 and the Weekend Warriors, this event is scheduled to commence at 11:30 am, and it will feature a total distance of 44 miles (4 laps). The registration fee for this category is $20.00.
In the main event of the day, which is the Elite/U-23 Open Category, the scheduled race time is set for 1:30 pm, and this will consist of 77 miles (7 laps). The registration fee is $25.00 for this category.
The event will utilize an 11 mile Loop Circuit Race, which will commence and conclude at the Triangular Park as the SENter in Independence Village. At the start of the race, the riders will make a right turn onto the Southern Highway to the P.G. Junction. From there, the riders will make a U-turn around and head back to the village, straight up to Big Creek. From there, the riders will make another U-turn around and come back to the village, make a sharp right and stay right around the Triangular Park through the start/finish line for one lap.
In the final lap on the return from Big Creek, the riders will make a right turn to sprint straight to the finish line.
