It sure was a secret. I met the man who ssid he was doing a presentation and called all around to get verification. No one seemed to know about it. He was shocked and I told him not to expect much of a turn out since know one knew about it.
After I got home and opened my e-mail there was a brief notice about this from the Chamber of Commerce.
Did anyone attend?
How many were there?

20-30 or so people. Not IDB fronted, but Pepe Garcia Contractor for Architects and another gentlemen (whose name I missed) hosted the meeting. They presented a broad outline of the proposal and then a Q&A for feedback to impliment into the design. It was aimed at Stakeholders in Tourism. A month ago they met with some of the home and dock owners at the back. Today they're meeting with Town Board and in a month there will be a full public consultation.

Is the "Old Football" pitch the one in the south of San Pedro? Is there a new pitch?

The "Old Football" pitch is the one in town at the back. The new one is the one down by DFC.

Thanks. Now I know.

Is the revitalization to provide an upgraded football pitch or to use the land for commercial or residential purposes?

It's still being decided exactly but the idea is to upgrade the field and the lagoon frontage area to some degree with an IDB loan, but exactly how is what is being discussed. No extra residential though.

The current proposal is to move the field west out into the lagoon a hundrd yards or so, allowing the road to open through what is currently the middle of the pitch. Then build a Municipal Dock for all water taxis and create a boardwalk area from the Tecaco Station to Sunset grill with organised docking for the boats back there.

On first pass this sounds good but local sentiment feels the ~US$8M could be better spent elsewhere, with a smaller amount spent on the back. The people who are currently living, working and using the docking facilities back there are happy to regenerate the area themselves with guidance and help, if allowed.

Old Football Field Project - Preliminary Consultation

A preliminary consultation for the Old Football Field (Saca Chispas) Sunset Boardwalk and Water Taxi Terminal, was held on Monday, November 9, at the San Pedro Lions Den. Heading the meeting for the evening were Mr. Carlos Santos and Mr. Pepe Garcia.

The Sustainable Tourism Program of the Ministry of  Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation and the Belize Tourism Board have a project in concept for the Old Football Field which consists of having a sunset boardwalk and water taxi terminal in the lagoon area.

The project’s over view is to have waterfront development on the lagoon front to create a new destination within San Pedro Town which will consolidate water travel to serve local and international traffic, provide new opportunities for leisure and commerce, build public-private partnerships for commercial and cultural growth, promote waterfront beautification, and further the overall enhancement of Ambergris Caye as a tourist destination, resulting in an increase in overnight tourist visitation.

The Project Site encompasses public land along the lagoon front west of the existing football field. The project will entail some reclamation of the lagoon to extend the football field (1.2 acres) west towards the lagoon and +/- 2500 linear feet of boardwalk stretching to the north to the intersection with Caribe´┐Ża Street and south to Tarpon Street. Moving the football field to the west will allow Angel Coral Street to run across the existing field at the moment for easy traffic flow as well as having a parking lot on the east side of the field, this information was done based upon recommendations of the feasibility study.

I'm sorry, but that football field isn't 1. 2 acres!
