Hi, I have a question on travel insurance. I am booking my "first" trip myself.(no travel agent) I see many people here do that. Do any of you worry about travel insurance? Any comments would be great.
Thanks!

Hi,
I am not a belizean but as someone who has had an accident and seen the inside of to many hospitals I would suggest getting some insurance from a travel company before you travel.

I hope that of course your holiday goes well and trouble free but if something does happen you wont want the added worry of costs. I am a Brit and am lucky to get free Health care like everyone here in the UK, but when I stayed with friends in Florida and their son was in hospital I was shocked at how thw costs added up. I couldn't believe that they even charged for air freshener!!!

Be on the cautious side and bet some insurance.

Have a graet holiday
Nick

Luvphins,
I don't usually buy trip insurance but I did for my recent trip to AC. It turns out I needed it. My trip was delayed one day due to flight cancellation. I will get reimbursed for the one night hotel I missed and all the expenses I incurred until I reached AC. For the trip interuption/delay alone, the insurance is worth it. It's invaluable if you have a medical emergency since your health insurance isn't honored outside of the country. It's a small amount of money for a tremendous peace of mind.

Where do you get trip insurance if you did all your trip arrangements yourself??? I've gotten it through my travel agent before, but didn't go that route this time. Please advise....

Debbie, I received the application from the hotel I booked on AC. They recommend it because they have a very strict refund policy. The company I used was Access America. You can reach them at 1800-284-8300.

There are two issues here. Travel insurance usually involves insurance against an inability to use services that are not refundable, but cannot be used due to illness or some other specified reason. This might be a good idea it you are going on an expensive tour and wanted to take no chances.

For health insurance, your insurer may already do it. Check. Why waste money if you don't have to. Better to invest it in beer when you get there!
