Belize is an excellent place to relax on the beach, trek the rainforests and explore the ancient maya ruins away from all the cold weather and the snow storms during the Christmas Holiday.
I can remember growing up in Belize as a child and seeing the Christmas shoppers everywhere you go and everyone busily preparing their home for the holidays. Christmas is one of those special times for Belizeans when families come together to enjoy terrific food, special drinks and the christmas cheer as a family.
You would normally see families go out to the hardware store and purchase paint for the walls, linoleum/marley for the floors and fabric to make new curtains. The mixed aroma of fresh paint, new linoleum and marley meant it was soon time for families to get together and cook their favorite recipes. Things that are a luxury to most Belizean homes during the Christmas season include: Turkey, Ham, Strawberries, Apples, Grapes, Pears, Black and White Fruit Cake, Rum Popo/Spiked Egg Nog, Local Wines and an assortment of chocolates and candies.
