An update on Hok'ol K'in hotel in Corozal Town, from Carol Conway in the San Francisco Bay area:

Carol and her mother, Marty Conway (Marty was a former Peace Corp volunteer in Belize) built and operated Hok'ol K'in from 1995 to 2005. It was always a friendly and affordable place to stay in Corozal, with a nice, breezy location across the street from the bay. I stayed there several times with my family.

Marty put Hok'ol K'in on the market and moved back to the U.S., but like most hotels for sale in Belize it got few offers. Last year, the Conways sold it to their managers, Lucy Clark and Aaron Navarro. As I understand it, Marty holds the mortgage.

Carol says: Lucy and Aaron "continue to run the hotel with our standards of cleanliness, family atmosphere and good service, and have added a few Belizean touches in the way of decorations. We still visit on a yearly basis, and hope the hotel will be in Lucy and Aaron's capable hands for many years to come."

Best of luck to them, and next time you're in Corozal give Hok'ol K'in a try.

We stayed @ Hok'ol K'in this past March this was the 4th time we have been there. The accomadations are budgetminded, tastfully decorated and very clean we would highly recomend this guest house to stay for your visit. The Belikin is always cold and the morning coffee is the best.

We are coming back to Belize (AC) for 12 days in March and are taking an overnight trip to Corozal to check it out We have tried emailing them about staying there in March for a night and the emails keep getting returned. Does anyone know if they are having problems? Or if they are still open? Also can anyone recommend another place to stay? Thanks in advance.

As far I know, the Hok'ol K'in is still open. Here are a couple of links to them to check your contact details:

Not knowing your budget, here are a few other good hotels close to the water taxi pier and close to the centre of town (restaurants, banks, taxis, etc)...

Hotel Mirador
About 100 metres from the pier.

Las Palmas

Bayside Guesthouse
A short walk or taxi ride from the pier. This place opened earlier this year -- new, clean, modern.

Sea Breeze Hotel
From the pier, a similar distance as the Bayside.

The Oasis is a longer walk from the centre of town.
There are also a few resorts at the south edge of town, about 1 to 2 km from the centre of town.

Sent Hok'ol K'in another email (my wife's first choice). If we don't hear back her next pick is Las Palmas. Thank you both for your input.

We ended up booking Las Palmas. Took all of a 1/2 a day and 4 emails. They were very quick to respond and we feel good about this choice. Will give feedback after out stay. 82 days and counting until we hit the beach!
