This is a response to another thread but I am so concerned about the taxation downfall here and those that suffer,,,

Belizean government has been doing all they can to kill tourism for the last three years and yet they act like its coming from another source...look at the taxes on the airlines....$800 US RT from the west coast yet go to Cancun its $300..and the place is bustling.here.12% GST....OMG...and then the illegal practice of businesses charging 5% service fee on credit cards...Yes Belize is #1 in the most expensive destinations in Central America and its not due to the $5.00 meals or the $20. trips to the reef...The Belize Tourism Board needs to address this crazy government taxation.
Just today I had visitors in my shop. they wanted to spend two months in Belize they sailed down on their boat and are being charged $20 a day so they are trying to get by on one week spending their time in Mexico and Honduras instead....
Sorry but such stupidity is killing this country..driving up crime as starvation and poverty is a serious problem...WAKE UP...
Tourism will and is going elsewhere....
