Chairman of Special Olympics, Dr. Timothy Shriver is in Belize City today and appeared at a press conference this morning along with Special Envoy for Women and Children and Global Ambassador for Special Olympics, Kim Simplis Barrow. Special Olympics is an international organization that promotes the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities into society. Dr. Shriver serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer in the organization which works with 3.1 million Special Olympics athletes in 175 countries around the world. Prior to the press conference, Dr. Shriver met with the Special Olympics athletes at the Stella Maris School. During the conference, Barrow also launched the 2011 Inspiration Calendar. The calendar features the artwork of twelve Belizean children with disabilities, six of whom are also Special Olympics Athletes. The children were selected from across the country. The calendar was produced by Barrow in partnership with Lifeline Foundation, Special Olympics Belize, CARE-Belize and McNab Designs.
