20 Belizeans students have been chosen to study at different universities in Mexico. The students are completing paper work in preparation for the 2011 academic year. Marcelino Miranda is the Head of the Press and Border Section at the Mexican Embassy.

"The process started this year during the summer and now we are at the end of the selection process. It has been confirmed that twenty Belizean students are going to receive the scholarships for different programs in Mexico. Some of them are going to start this summer in 2011 but other ones are going to start at different times because it depends on their own program. Some of them are going to study three years, others are going to study for four years but in any case depending on the duration of the program the scholarship is going to cover those programs. The will be some undergraduate and postgraduate studies. There are just going to complete just a few of the administrative works."

The scholarships were granted by the Government of Mexico and last week the recipients met with the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Mexico Hector Peralta and Cultural Attache and Director of the Institute of Mexico Domingo Rodriguez.

"The students are going to attend different universities around Mexico. Some of them are going to Chetumal and other parts of the Yucatan Peninsula but they are also going to other universities in Mexico; central Mexico and northern Mexico. Mexico and Belize have been consolidating their cultural education exchange and now what we have seen is that Mexico is granting more scholarships to Belizeans. In the last year this number increased and we have over a hundred Belizeans studying in Mexico with Mexican scholarships. We are expecting to continue increasing these scholarships and it is very important Belizean students who are interested to contact the Embassy in Mexico because we have different programs and there are different scholarships available for the following year."

The scholarships will be granted by Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

20 Belizeans are up for scholarship from Mexico

The number of Belizean students pursuing tertiary education in neighboring Mexico has increased significantly on an annual basis since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in that country began offering scholarship opportunities for studies in various disciplines. Another group of Belizeans will be enrolling in universities across Mexico as twenty students have been short listed for scholarships to pursue bachelors and masters degree programs. Fifteen of the students will be selected to take up the scholarships.
