OK, I'm really jealous. I keep reading all these posts that say something like, "we'll be there June 1 to July 21." What is it that you guys do to be able to take off so much time, and whatever it is, how do I find a job like that? Got any openings at your company? It's not fair! I need to move to Italy where they get a ton of vacation. I'm lucky to be able to take a week and a half off at a time for vacation. I envy those of you who get to take long vacations....

My job is to take care of my husband. Sometimes I think I would entertain resumes for a break, but other times, I just thank God that I have such a great job. But good luck.

I think all Americans should be complaining to their employers about not getting enough vacation time than Corporate America would have to deal with it. I used to get 5 weeks paid vacation in Germany plus tons of Holidays and a 37.5 hour work week. Don't ask me why I moved to the States. My parents still think I should come back to Germany so I get more free time. After 10 years in this rat race I am starting to consider moving back.

My husband and I are both self employed, so any vacations we take are without pay! I am a medical transcriptionist, and I work at home. It is possible for me to work anywhere in the world that I have an internet connection, so believe me I am working on doing just that! Then I can go to paradise whenever I can afford the airfare, and make $$$ while I'm there. Somehow transcribing 10 hours a day while looking out at the reef has more appeal than my home office in Oregon, which has no windows at all. <sigh>

oops... I was going to try and stay on topic and here I am talking about work instead of AC. Well, at least you know I'm working on my bad habits. [Linked Image]

30 yrs. teaching first graders and also doing social work for our county's child protective services-finally retired. I only wish I could get my husband to stop working-he's a construction contractor and very busy building and renovating lots of schools in NY. I don't know how close you are to retirement but your day will come for lots of nice down time.

Don't be in such a rush to move to europe.. sure they get 4 to 6 weeks vacation, but they have to survive on lower wages... ( how would you like to try supporting a family on only 60 or 70k a year).. I work for a multinational IT firm and the people I work with on projects that are not from the states make quite a bit less than we do. They also tend to enjoy what they have and don't sweat over their stock options, 401k's, and other money matters...so it all evens out in the end.

me personally.. i did the blue collar labor thing.. went into the marines.. gave my blood and sweat ( literally) for 5 years, got an education, jumped into the IT field, and will reap the benefits for the rest of my life.

High pay, 5 weeks paid time off, great bennies, and all the stress that comes with it.. it's a tradeoff, but it's fun now until a wife and kids come along.

Everybody has the same chances in life, no matter where you're from or what kind of background you come from... Make out of it what you will.
