Hi guys,

I'm getting married next summer (2012). Belize is at the top of the list for where I would like to take our honeymoon. I am thinking Ambergris Caye; possibly Caye Caulker. Since I have never been to Belize, I thought I'd come ask the experts. smile We are in our late 20's/ early 30's if it matters. The wedding will most likely be in July, possibly June.

Here's what I'm looking for in a hotel:
- Preferably adults only (or at least not a place where many people commonly bring kids.)
- Peaceful. We are not looking for "nightlife", but don't need to be completely isolated.
- Someplace where we can get to local places to eat by walking/golf cart/bike would be great. I don't want the hotel restaraunt to be our only option w/o having to take a water taxi.
- We don't need a super fancy resort. However, nothing dumpy either. (After all, it IS my honeymoon. a tiny bit of luxury would be nice!!)
- Budget: not more than $500us a day (including hotel, food, and activities.)
-Looking to stay at least a week.

Any ideas? Advice? Should we stay in the jungle for a night or 2 as well? Thanks for reading!!

Banana Beach is perfect. Nicely located just outside of town but easy access to anywhere else on AC. From thre you can DO a little or a lot with ease. If you are leaving from NJ you can stay in Newark after you get back that will take care of jungle interests. smile

Check out Mata Rocks and Xanadu as well. In the same vicinity as Banana Beach. Both are clean, quiet and within walking or biking distance to town and dining options.

If you pick Mata Rocks, spring for the second floor unit that has a balcony overlooking the water. It's a lovely unit, and the only one (I think), that faces the water. Xanadu would be a great pick too. Peaceful, lovely pool area, and the grounds have a real jungle feel to them without having to leave the island. The units are fabulous, though they don't all have an ocean view. If you chose Banana Beach, again, make sure you get a beachFRONT unit.

All the above are fine, but I believe Mata Chica is the only resort that does not allow kids 12 and under, but is north of and not in walking distance to town. I would spend at least a few nights on the mainland and there are many great places to consider. Hidden Valley Inn has private waterfalls on thie 7200 acres property you can rent for the day with picnic lunch and wine and thats about as romantic as you can get.

Personally I would stay just on the north end of town, Blue Tang, Paradise Villa's, Phoenix or even the cute little cottages just on Boca del Rio. Walking is no problem from one end of town to the other. Quiet, and right on the water. I have never been to the Phoenix, but outside it is beautiful. Restaurants, bars, shops all right there. Boat going north is always at Wet Willy's dock. If you stay at Banana Beach you will end up taking taxi's back and forth, especially at night. You may walk to Xanadu but if you are doing it a few times a day, unless you are really into exercise, you'll grab a cab. If you are coming in June, places are not full, when you book, get 2 nights and if you are not happy, change hotels/resorts. If you are happy, extend your stay at the place you selected. JMHO

Why would they need to take water taxis to/from Banana Beach?

I recommended staying near Boca del Rio. I said there is a water taxi going north from Wet Willy's dock,(if they want to seesomething acrossed the bridge and easy walking to restaurants south of Wet Willy's dock. I didn't say they would take water taxi to Banana Beach.
