OK time for stupid question of the month.
All the sea grass that is raked up on the island what is done with it? Is there a good purpose such as composting etc. Where does it go?

It's not a stupid question! It is composted. It takes a long time to leach out the salt, and a long time for the strong fiber of the grass to start breaking down. But, many local gardeners swear by it and some others don't even know about buying fertilizer because that's all they know. It can take months for both processes.
Unfortunately, some uninformed people don't understand about the value of the eel grass while it is alive out in the flatts, of it's use when it washes up. Just because it isn't pretty...

Its great stuff for landscaping.
makes good fill for flower boxes.
Lots of great uses for those who know what to do with it.
incorporating it into the landscaping is the best way to get rid of to much. remember raking all of it up erodes the beach its nice to leave some for the critters.
one problem is its plastic content. seems you think you picked out all the plastic but then as it dries and shrinks down you have more and more come to the surface.
Nice to let it rain on it to wash the salt out before you use it on some plants less salt tolerant.
I haven't tried smoking it yet.

I do a lot of composting for my garden back in the states (IL) and to speed the process up I add some diluted ammonia (one cup - 4 gal fresh water) to the pile.
The worms love it also.

No worms in San Pedro, and ammonia costs more than you think here...especially for the amounts of sea grass we compost. We just use different piles and the great Island commodity, time.
