The girls of Holy Redeemer RC School won the National Primary Schools Basketball championship in the tournament organized by the National Sports Council at the Belize City Center last Friday, February 18.
Most Valuable Player Indie Dixon led the Holy Redeemer girls to a 13-12 win over the Orange Walk district champions, the girls of Louisiana Government School in the finals. Indie scored six points in the first half, while Shalidah Moguel tossed in a basket and Shanice added a free throw to lead 9-6 at intermission. Beatrice Cuellar had scored two baskets for the sugar city girls, and Evonie Gentle added four points, Zelita Catzim and Yashira Bull added a basket each in the second half, but Shanice and Indie each scored a basket in the second half for the 13-12 win.
The Cayo district champions, the girls of Bishop O.P. Martin RC School, repeated as winners of the consolation match for third place as they blew away the Stann Creek district champions, the girls of Sacred Heart RC School of Dangriga town, 16-2. Ivorie Clark led the Bishop O.P. Martin RC School with 11 points while Letecia Nuñez scored Sacred Heart’s only basket. The Reporter
