Starting yesterday, you might have noticed a few new faces at some local schools. smile The UNCW Student Teachers have returned!

For the last three years. The University of North Carolina Watson School of Education (UNCW) has brought a group of UNCW students to San Pedro for 6 weeks. The first year, there were seven UNCW student teachers, and 1 professor. Last year, there were 16 teachers and 2 professors. The final headcount for this year, 18 students and 2 professors. Each teacher is assigned a school, and a local teacher, with whom they will partner for the entire 6 week, life changing experience. This is an amazing program that has implications for generations, and is only beginning to take root.

The group will be spending some "down time" socializing in and around San Pedro and 1 week in San Ignacio. They will be supporting a variety of fundraisers such as the Lions Club Bingo Night on April 1, and the SAGA Cook Off on April 13.

BUT Tonight...tonight, the UNCW teachers will be at Legends Burger House for burgers before Jam night, which starts at 8. Feel free to come on in, and let them know how much their support is appreciated smile

Lara, just a minor clarification from a Tar Heel born and bred ("and when I die I'm Tar Heel dead"): UNCW stands for University of North Carolina at Wilmington -- the Wilmington campus of the UNC system is on the coast of North Carolina, one of 17 institutions in the UNC system. The Watson School of Education is a department at UNCW.

Lan - thanks smile I stand corrected

A great time was had by all last night, and the student teachers had some really interesting thoughts and feedback from their first couple days.

Join us on Saturday from 1pm on at the Palapa Bar as they unwind and process their first week in San Pedro!
