While the search continues for three missing Cubans, a US National was safely pulled out of Belizean waters, also near Caye Caulker. Four men set out on a snorkeling expedition on Saturday. Fifty-five year old American, Jack Burnette, who now resides in San Pedro, took his friends Kenneth Cox, Gary Paumgargmar and Eric Resse, to experience the underwater wonders one mile north of Caye Caulker. They arrived at one p.m. and when the group returned to the boat forty minutes later, Resse was nowhere to be found. But at ten minutes after twelve the following afternoon, after almost twenty-four hours, Resse walked into the Caye Caulker Police Station and reported that he was rescued by a tour guide from mangroves near The Split in Caye Caulker. Resse was medically examined and is in good health.

A man who went missing at sea around midday on Saturday was found alive.

Jorge Aldana reporting

"55 year old Eric Reeze is lucky to be alive after he went missing at sea for a little over 24 hours on Saturday. Reeze was on a dive expedition that had left San Pedro Ambergris Caye along with 3 others. But while at sea, some one mile north of Caye Caulker Village something went wrong; he jumped into the water and was not seen by his friend to have resurfaced. So when Jack Burnette, a resident of San Pedro Town visited the Caye Caulker Police Station and made the report, it was enough reasons to trigger a search. Several attempts were made to locate the missing Reeze but he was nowhere to be found. But in a miraculous turn of events, he was found and rescued by a local tour guide from the mangroves across from the split in Caye Caulker Village sometime around 12:10 on Sunday afternoon. Reeze was rescued and taken to the Caye Caulker Police station where he gave police an account as to what had happened. He was dehydrated but very upbeat and was assisted with some cash for him to be able to find his way back to San Pedro."

Wasn't a tour guide it was a windsurfer.

Pretty sure he was out with friends - not a registered tourist guide.

Tourist rescued after surviving night at sea

Eric Resse, who was out snorkeling with friends north of the island of Caye Caulker, was rescued from the sea after going missing on Saturday afternoon.

Police say that Jack Burnette, 55, of San Pedro Town, told them that he and three other men - Kenneth Cox, Gary Paumgargmar and Resse - had gone out on a snorkeling trip, but after they returned to the boat at around 1:40 p.m., they realized that Resse was not with them. They went to the police and an immediate search was launched with the Coast Guard and Belize Dive Service, but Resse was not found.

On Sunday afternoon, March 20, Resse was rescued from the mangroves across from the Split in Caye Caulker by a passing tour guide and brought to the police station.

He told local media that he had been taken under by the riptide near the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and could not get back to the boat, and was forced to float and try his best to get back toward Caye Caulker.

Resse reported that he was able to get over the reef and swim toward Caye Caulker, where he was picked up in the mangroves. Apart from having swallowed a large amount of sea water and being dehydrated, he was otherwise physically fine and returned to San Pedro Town, where he was staying, later in the day.

He had a snorkel and mask, no fins, when the windsurfer found him on North Island and said he had been snorkling.
