a cousin set him on fire? This is just absurd and sick. Very sad and I hope my best wishes go out to Martinez. I hope I am correct assuming the cousin is presently locked up where he belongs, with the rest of the criminal animals.

Male Teenager Set On Fire By Female Cousin In a Dispute Over A TV

A 19 year old male is in the hospital with burns to 40% of his body after he was set on fire by his female cousin in San Pedro Town yesterday evening. The dispute was over a 12 inch television.

According to Rene Martinez he was at his grandfather's house around 4 yesterday evening - where he entered a room and removed a 12 inch TV belonging to his grandfather and placed it into the living room.

He and a friend were watching the TV when his cousin -Elijia Kelly-who also lives at the house- entered and began to question him about why he removed the Television from her room.

She then unplugged the TV and attempted to take it back. A struggle then ensued between Martinez and Kelly - where Kelly managed to take away the TV. But things didn't end there.

Martinez told police that he went to wash some dishes in the kitchen - and that was when Kelly doused him with kerosene. He felt the cool liquid running down his back and when he turned around he saw his cousin Elijia Kelly with a lighter that she used to set him on fire.

Kelly then ran out the house. Martinez's friend managed to out the fire and with the help of his uncle he was transported to the San Pedro Poly clinic. He was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is admitted in critical condition. Police have since detained Elijiah Kelly pending charges.

A nineteen year old is hospitalized at the KHMH after receiving burns to his back yesterday on San Pedro.

Jorge Aldana reporting....

"A teenager living in San Pedro remains hospitalized after he was burned by one of his family members. The person is 19 year old Rene Esteven Martinez of a San Pablo Area Address of San Pedro Town. According to a family member, Martinez was at his grandmother's house in the San Pablo Area when a female cousin threw kerosene over Martinez and set him ablaze sometime around 3:45 on Tuesday afternoon. Martinez was rushed to the San Pedro Poli-Clinic for treatment. According to Dr. Otto Rodriguez from the San Pedro Poly-clinic, Martinez was observed with 2nd degree burns to 40 percent of his body and as a result was airlifted by a helicopter from the Belize Emergency Response Team. In speaking to family members, Love News understands that Martinez was washing dishes inside the kitchen when his 25 year old cousin, namely Elijia Ecien Kelly, threw kerosene over Martinez. According to Police the incident arose from a fierce struggle over a television that Martinez had previously removed from the living room. While inside the kitchen, Kelly then managed to light Martinez on fire after which a friend of Martinez, who was inside watching television at the time of the incident, assisted with putting out the fired. The friend, along with an uncle of Martinez, namely Joseph Elijio, managed to rush Martinez to the poly-clinic. According to a sibling of Kelly, while both cousins are close, they were always involved in quarrels. Kelly's sibling explained that it is not the first time that Elijia had threatened to kill Martinez. The 19 year old Martinez remains hospitalized at the KHMH in critical condition with burns to his back. Police has since detained Kelly pending charges for attempt murder."
