SPECIAL OLYMPICS RECEIVE DONATION
The Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held in Athens, Greece this year. There are only seventy-eight days left for the competitions to start and this year Special Olympics Belize is preparing to send a team to Greece. That trip is closer to becoming a reality after the organization received a sizeable monetary donation from the Princess Casino Group. The check for ten thousand dollars was handed to the organization this morning at the Princess Hotel and Casino, and will be used to fund the travel costs of the Special Olympics’ Football team. Chairman of Special Olympics Belize, Alan Auil, received the donation this morning.

“This is actually going toward funding our national football team that will attend the world summer games in June and early July. We have been working on a five a side football team for the past three years. We have always attended with a small contingent of track and field athletes. This year we want to send a football team. So, you can imagine the cost of air travel to get there. So this money that we received today from the princess group is going to go toward the travel expenses. We still need more but certainly we are very grateful for what the Princess gave us today. It will go a long way toward fulfilling the dreams of our athletes. Not only the ones who are traveling and who made the national team, but all our registered members are going to feel proud when they come back with the accomplishments that we know they will have in Greece. It really is going to unite our communities, our athletes, our families; it’s going to go a long way toward helping all persons in Belize with intellectual disabilities.”
Executive General Coordinator of Princess Casinos, Necip Karayusuf says the donation was made with special regard for the children.

“Well we always like to help the children. Our group always did that. We help the orphanage, we help the children, and our hope is that other companies will do the same. This is our hope. I think the children of Belize is the future of Belize and so people they have to realize that and help them. The priority is when children have disabilities. This is our big goal that we would like to help them urgently. These companies have to come together to show then they are a company by helping these people. If they do that, they will be blessed.”
The football team has been training over the past three years for the competition. Special Olympics Belize has received donations from other businesses including Sol Belize, BTL, and Belize Water Services. LOVEFM
