I'm leaving in two weeks for my first trip to AC. We'll have a house North of town. I MUST swim with sea turtles, although I will only be able to snorkle. Can any one tell me where to go to do this? Must I take a boat? Any tips to share with a beginner? (I'm definitly going to order some Safe Sea today)

Please help! Thanks!

Hey, you're in for the time of your life. I didn't actually see any turtles when I was there, but one guy in our group saw one when we were snorkelling at either Hol Chan or Shark/Ray Alley. It's a boat ride (I went with Searious Adventures, which is located on the dock by Ruby's hotel in town). It'll cost about $20 for an afternoon, from what I remember. Maybe someone else knows a better place to see the wonderful creatures??? Good luck to you in your quest! Have an awesome vacation. IJ

Once you are snorkeling, its pot luck whether you spot a turtle on a given day....

we've seen them, and not seen them. go a few times and the odds go up considerably...

I didn't do any snorkeling, but I did want to say that in my week of diving from AC I saw at least one Hawksbill turtle on every one of my 17 dives. I saw Loggerheads on several dives. There are rays galore and nurse sharks all over, and the occasional Reef or even Bull. Once, there was even a bod of Bottlenose. I have a hard time imagining that one could be dissapointed with not only the numbers of big animals in the seas surrounding AC, but there good health as well. If their numbers had been even half, I still would have been well pleased. I was wanting to see a Hammerhead for the first time, but it didn't happen. No worries, that kind of specific encounter is mostly a matter of luck. There are so many turtles that I don't think you'll need much luck though.

I've been to SP in November, December, early January and in April. April gave me the best show of turtles. It's mating season. During my other trips, I ocassionally saw a turtle from a distance. During my April trip, one swam right up to me to give me a kiss. :^)

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

We saw and snorkeled with a turtle in the San Pedro Cut in April.
