Belize City, Belize, May 2, 2011 - - The Belize Coalition to Save our Natural Heritage is pleased to invite you to a public forum on May 5, 2011 on “Oil in Belize: Environmental and Economic Implications” at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Auditorium on Princess Margaret Drive, Belize City.
Presenters at the forum will be international experts in the oil industry, Richard Steiner and Richard Feinberg who are working with the Coalition on technical analyses regarding environmental and economic issues in the petroleum industry in Belize. Richard Steiner will also present an analysis of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Both experts are on technical missions in Belize. Richard Steiner is conducting a rapid environmental assessment as well as reviewing Belize’s National Oil Spill Contingency Plan, while Richard Feinberg will be reviewing Belize’s fiscal regime for the petroleum industry, focusing on the production sharing agreements.
At the completion of their technical missions, the experts will provide the Coalition with recommendations that will be integrated into a comprehensive set of recommendations to cover economic, environmental, legal and social issues as it relates to the petroleum industry. These recommendations will be forwarded to the Government.
