Hmmm not sure I agree with the article, I remember the bleaching in 98 and it was getting quite bad but Hurricane Mitch took care of that and cooled the water and it came back real quick.

Also I notice that the photo credit was given to a Samuel Chow but that Famous Blue Hole picture was taken by Chris Allnatt so Yahoo Travel got it wrong with the credit but the picture is in the public domain.

The article has awful factual errors (sturgeon??), but the condition of the reef is indeed declining.

The yearly report card by the Healthy Reef Initiative pulls together data from all over the country and the signs are not good. Bleaching occurs virtually every year now at the end of the summer months heading into hurricane season.

General declines in coral condition are occurring globally.

Nonetheless, the article's import is that the world's climate is inexorably changing. That is undeniably true. At least they don't claim that it's all mankind's fault and that by changing our practices we can stop or reverse it.

Marine Biologist have developed a technique to cut a portion of certain types of coral and transplant them in other loctions. Has been quite successful in the South Pacific and Key Largo, Fl.
I think the reef will survive in the long run, but mankind is screwed. So enjoy it while mother nature lets us be here.:)
