I want to help divers planning to come to Belize and Dive our Blue Hole.
Plan your diving so that at least one day is diving locally before booking the trip to the Hole.
Most operators have a policy not to let divers go on the Blue Hole Dive unless the diver has done a warm up dive locally.
Imagine the risks and problems a Divemaster would have with divers doing their first dive of their vacation, 130 feet down over a virtual bottomless cavern with strangers and equipment they are unfamiliar with.
This seems like a common sense thing to me.
Have fun be safe!

Wow, elbert, guess I'm more conservative than are you. My recommendation would be for more than one day of local dives before going on the Blue Hole day trip, especially at least one dive to deeper than 80'.

Now having said that, I'll give an exception. Recently met a dive instructor from Argentina. He was travelling all over Central America, various Caribbean islands, etc. and his next stop was Belize. In that he'd been diving at most every location, don't think he'd have a problem with Blue Hole day as his first dives in Belize.

Other than that, I'll hold my position. smile

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

I agree with both of you. One day local diving (2 dives) as a minimum, preferably evidence of previous deep diving or a second local day with the first dive being deep (100ft). Even better dive locally to 145ft (the depth of the normal BH dive) with a sloping bottom under you.
