We're inviting friends to join us for our annual AC trip for the first time in a long time. The ladies all like to shop the local jewelry, carved wood items, etc., but would also enjoy higher end resort clothes, bathing suites, sandals, and jewelry. I don't have a clue where to take them or even if this type shopping is available. Your suggestions will be much appreciated.

Artworks and jewellery and other really nice handicrafts, go to the Belizean Art gallery situated in Fido's, also there's Ambar, also within Fido's for beautiful handmade jewellery made by Elisabeth. Carole Goudreau is down by the Yacht Club and makes some beautiful "barefoot sandals" you can see here . There are other jewellry makers here some of whom sell in the street (Waldo, Omar) and Veronique who exhibits in Banana Beach. There's a new (?) shop for carvings round by Sunset Grill, I haven't been inside but the carvings are very unusual and beautiful. Graniel's Dreamland has some gorgeous woodworkings, Orange giftshop by Tropic. Mambo Chill on front street has some nice clothing and unusual sandals etc, and jewellery, and Lara who owns Lemon Crush Belize has arguably the most beautifully crafted and high quality swimwear. Really high end, not as expensive as many places in the US, and each piece is unique. Lara's on the island and you can contact her through the website. I hope this helps!

Oh, and there may well be some places in Belize City that have the higher end stuff (Princess Casino etc) but really you'd be paying over the odds for imported glitz that you'll get cheaper (and get more choice) in the US.

Thanks so much for the information, sunrisesky. It's exactly what I was looking for. We won't be in Belize City this trip, but have been to the Princess Casino and know exactly what you're talking about.
