You can call them the Football Federation of Belize’s selection, or you can call them team Belize, but despite all reprisals from the Ministry of Sports, the football team has scored two international victories against Montserrat and one against Honduras in a friendly match. The first game in the home and away series against Montserrat was won five to two in Trinidad. And on Sunday evening, the Belize team won its return match with a score of three to one in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. According to the Senior Vice President of the FFB, the first goal was scored by Danny Jimenez, the second by Deon McCauley and the third by Luis Mendez.

“It’s a historic victory for Belize, for our boys, having shown the level that Belizean football has come to—tremendous improvement. People who know about football, who saw the game, are able to appreciate it is not the brute force type of football that they used to play in years past, but it’s a game that is flowing—there is movement of the ball and our boys with great confidence. So definitely it is historic to be able to win six points out of six in a world cup qualifier. I must also give thanks to our friends in Honduras who really assisted us—the City of San Pedro Sula and their sports department who were able to assist us with the facilities and all other details needed for the game. Coming back to the game, the Montserrat Team—their big, their strong—and so our boys moved the ball pretty well among them and around them. The goal scorers for the national team were the same three goal scorers from our practice game a few days earlier with Marathon. They were Danny Jimenez, Deon McCauley and Luis Mendez. We move onto a group of four. We don’t know who our opponents are. There will be a draw on the thirtieth of this month in Rio De Janeiro and on that date we will know who our three rivals will be. This will include some teams from Central America as well as teams from the Caribbean. Who we will have, we still do not know at this point in time.”
Some key players were absent from the game. Pech said that the injured player list includes Elroy smith and Harrison Roches. According to the CONCACAF website, the team goes to Rio De Janeiro on July thirtieth for a world cup qualifying draw.
