My boyfriend Wayne and I were on AC last January, and I was fishing for the first time. While I had his help as well as that of our boat captain, who was awesome by the way (Roberto, goes by the name "Chiney", and lives right next door to the Island Market if I remember correctly--just ask around and someone will be more than kind enough to direct you to him) Wayne will tell you that our first day fishing the reef, I had 9 fish in the boat before he got his first bite!!!! I caught baracuda, and three different kinds of snapper which we brought back to the hotel and had grilled for lunch! It was one of my all time most delicious meals, not only because of the wonderful and simple preparation, but because I caught the fish myself! [Linked Image] AMAZING! Even as a novice fisherperson, you can learn a lot and have a great time fishing on AC. I am definitely a convert, and fishing was fun both on the reef and from the dock of our hotel (Mata Chica) We mainly did catch and release (except for my lunch and the fish we saved for some of the great people that worked at the hotel) and it was just great, so if you are interested ask around for someone to take you on your own or go through your hotel (more expensive though usually) and fish away--I think you will really love it! We can't wait to go back in February! :-)

I'm NOT an expert fisherwoman..... Matter of fact, I fish with what my husband calls a "Snoopy" pole from Wal-Mart and a cheap Zebco reel. He laughs at me all the time... But you want to know a secret???? I out fish him EVERY time we go fishing together. Makes him so mad he turns purple, becuase he has top of the line everything, and fishes constantly. Needless to say, we don't fish together very often...... Anyway, we went fishing while down there, and I had a ball! Our guide however handed me a spin cast rod and reel to fish with, and I just looked at it with dismay. He asked what was wrong and I told him I fished with a snoopy pole from Wal-Mart back home and he laughed his ass off. He was SO SWEET. He cast for me most of the day, until I had watched him enough and felt certain I could do it without making a bird nest in his reel. He was patient and even placed my fingers in the right place. (My husband would never do this.... I wadded up his line one to many times....) Back at the dock a local came up and asked if he had had a good day. Our guide nodded.... He then asked who caught the most and biggest fish.... His reply?
The Pescadora!!!! (Me) LOL Yes, I had a good time....
