Is an "assisted living facility", for older folks that are not yet ready to enter a nursing home, available any place in Belize?

Last year someone told me there was one I think between Belize City and Belmopan. It sure would be nice to have one here on the island.

Me and a friend talked about this a few years back. It still sounds like something that should be looked into as a possible business venture.

Reaper - I don't think we are talking about 'assisted drinking' everyone seems to be able to do that quite well. Maybe need assistance getting home. LOL

having worked for many years in the long term care (LTC) environment in the US, i would not recommend belize for someone who is considering assisted living. We simply do not have the access to emergency medical care that is a necessary component for someone that is seeking to live in a medically augmented environment.

Very good point. Maybe more of the early retirement faze. Still mobile and alert.

What about those of us who do not want to prolong life or be recessitated? I look forward to getting to the age and condition where I no longer keep house or cook for myself --- OH - I'm already there! Now, I just have to support a care taker and not have other old farts around me. It would be nice to have interesting people to play cards and dominoes, etc. with.

I had my Mom down here in an apartment with full time care. It was much cheaper than doing something like that in the U.S. As things got more difficult she was with John Carr at Banana Bank Ranch. I'm not sure he is still doing this. Lots of caring and trustworthy people here in the country to look after elderly people. The medical care on the island is adequate as long as emergencies don't arise but better on the mainland. At least here you can get house calls. If you are living here and have an elderly parent I would recommend bringing them down. At least you can check in and make sure their care is up to par.
