I will be lucky enough to spend my honeymoon in lovely AC starting 9/4. This message board has given us quite a bit of information and helped us make AC our destination.

The problem is that the honeymoon Suite in the Victoria House is booked (my fiance's first choice). Can someone recommend a close second?

A few suggestions:

Consider a one or two-bedroom unit at one of the condotels. Villas at Banyan Bay, all two bedrooms, are very nice and have jacuzzis. Banana Beach, especially the seafront units, are attractive and a great value. The Palms also has nice apartments.

If money is no object, the villas at Cayo Espanto (on a tiny private island on the back island of Ambergris) are very luxe, and you get meals delivered to your house and your own personal butler.

Mata Chica's cabanas are beautiful ... though it seems like Mata Chica is closed in September.

You might also look at renting a private vacation home. Quite a few have ads here on the AmbergrisCaye.com site.

We just got back from the Vicoria House(loved it!) they do have some deluxe rooms and plantation rooms that were also nice. we stayed in a casita and it was great! You can also rent one of the owners villas. One is a 2 bedroom where you can rent one room along with the living area and kitchen. It is a little more secluded and has its own really nice deck overlooking the ocean.

Looks like we will try the Victoria House, I can't wait. We are also considering this new place called Portifino. It is said to open in August and we are a bit reluctant to go to such a new place. Does anyone have any feedback on whether it will be fully operational by the first week in September?
