I was completly appalled after reading this article in the SP Sun newspaper. The dredging is way out of control, and if something is not done about it, it will cause irreparable damage with severe consequences! The article says that Patty Arceo is aware of the situation. She states,"Most of the ILLEGAL activities appear to be an abuse of permits that were given in good faith to land owners and operators. Based on info recieved from Dept. of Geology's inspection, that reports, reprimands and recommendations will be made." These people should be reprimanded by being kicked off of AC. "Illegal dredging will cause devastating results during the next tidal surge in the next tropical storm". If there had been more mangrove in the back (which is also being done illegall) maybe would have lessoned the damage from "Kieth"...i say email Patty and let her know that it must be stopped!!! Maybe will do some good, maybe not...but worth a try!!!

Cheri,
I have to say, I was a bit concerned with the dredging and the mess being made just past the hand ferry on the north end. A golf cart can almost not get through there to get to the Palapa or Sweet Basil's!!! What is that all about??? I noticed that there was a large muddy "stain" in the water out towards the reef in this area, and it was NOT pretty. What's going on in that area?

It's like the illegal cutting and clearing of mangroves, which happens regularly all along the coast and on many cayes, including Ambergris.

Only when the individuals and developers involved in illegal dredging are publicly named in the media (including on the Internet) and when legal action is taken against them will this kind of thing be stopped or at least reduced.
