I think I read here that all beaches on AC were public. We are staying at Banana Beach beginning July 17. For a change of scenery can we take a water taxi to the north end and hang out on a beach somewhere. If so, can anyone recommend one with a place for lunch and a dock/pier to swim/snorkel from?

Also, can you buy good coffee on the island and if so where? Where was that great fresh squeezed orange juice place I read about??

Thanks to all of you experienced ACers!

Legally all (or virtually all, there may be a few grandfathered exceptions) beaches in Belize are public up to the high water mark. As a practical matter, some private owners and hotels do discourage the unwashed public from visiting their piece of beach, by putting up signs, fences to stop golf carts from coming through, etc. but most do not.

You can walk or ride a bike along the entire strech of beach without a single problem. Everyone is so friendly there, you won't have a problem. Have fun.

Since you are staying at Banana Beach, it is right next door to Mata Rocks. Mata Rocks has fresh OJ and coffee (continental breakfast in the a.m. for its guests), but a lot of guests from BB came over and paid a small fee for a cup of coffee or OJ. Also, Tropical Take Out near the airport had good food and great fresh OJ.

Jules, Also, for a great take out breakfast, consider stopping in at Ruby's cafe just around the corner from the airport - they have the infamous Johnny Cakes and terrific fresh squeezed orange juice - not to mention incredible cinnamon buns, and other sweet breads. It's a must on your list!
