The Belize Audubon Society is one NGO whose calendar is filled with activities all year round. And this time of year is strictly for the birds. According to the Audubon's Publicity Coordinator, there are strange birds flying across the country. Dirk, the Birdman, Francisco is inviting the public to join them on the next few weekends of bird watching in every district.

Dirk 'Birdman' Francisco

"It's migration time again in Belize. The month of October means that there is a big flock of birds coming from North America heading to South American where we call the wintering grounds. When it gets cold in America, birds fly south and Belize is part of the migration route. So we are using the opportunity to invite Belizeans or to engage Belizeans in bird watching. And we do this through a program that we call Urban Bird Watch. So it simply means that we're going to different urban areas of Belize to look at birds for fun and at the same time to educate people as to why birds are important to Belize and the world. So this weekend October 2nd, we will be in Dangriga town. It starts at six a.m. from the jetty peer. So if there is anyone interested in bird watching with Belize Audubon Society, feel free to come and join us. For all other Sundays in October, we'll be in different urban areas. From Dangriga we're going to Punta Gorda Town, then Belmopan City, San Ignacio Town and we will finish off in Corozal Town. This year I think bird watching will be quite exciting because as of now Jose, we have been realizing that there are many birds migrating and we've seen some strange birds especially in Belize City. So again anybody interested in bird watching with Belize Audubon Society, feel free to join Belize Audubon Society."

Book launch and photo exhibit at Image Factory

Dirk 'Birdman' Francisco

If you would like to join one of the bird watching sessions, you can call 223-5004 for dates and the districts that the Audubon will be visiting. And next Tuesday the Audubon is launching a photo exhibit and a book at the Image Factory in Belize City.

Dirk 'Birdman' Francisco, Publicity Coordinator, BAS

"We're taking the opportunity to highlight our work through the launch of a book-a book about the forty years of our work. This book launch will be on October fourth at the Image Factory. But along with the book launch, we are trying to again showcase the work of Belize Audubon Society through a photo exhibit. Over the years we have collected thousands of photograph on our work-the photos we've used to educate people to fundraise, to bring forth issues that relates to environmental concerns in Belize. And we are using the opportunity to engage Belizeans again in identifying the importance of conservation in Belize. So we invite every and anyone to come to the exhibition launch or if you can't make it to the launch you could always stop in at the Image Factory from October fourth to the twenty-eighth during normal working hours."

Jose Sanchez

"What time is the launch? It's on Tuesday you said?"

Dirk 'Birdman' Francisco

"Yeah, Tuesday, October fourth at ten o clock a.m."

Francisco reminds the public that everyone is invited to the launch at the Image Factory on North Front Street on Tuesday.
