Here is one for the record books. The divers returning just now reporting on their computers a Water Temp. at Hol Chan Today August 18th 2:pm is 88f..
It had a light outgoing current to help it.

Manatee like cooler water and its been so warm in the bay and river that they have been retreating to the sea side of the reef.
Its a good time of year for spotting them in unusual places.

Took a snorkel trip to CC last week. Saw manatees for the first time up-close. Nice.

Ambergris Cayes water temperature for divers
Today's water temperature is 82F. or 27.7 Degrees Celsius
September 30th

With the dead calm seas for the last two days we've developed a slight thermocline, normally its almost undetectable but the absence of wind has given us 84f. at the surface and 82 f. degrees at depth.

Several years back at Hol Chan - because the sea is so shallow and over bright yellow sand - the water tempature was 90 - like a hot bath - almost made me sick.
But the good news is that - as Elbert reports - it's usually about 82.

Its November now and the water is cooling especially with all the October rain, but still as far as cold water goes we just don't have it!
According to the DM's today's temp. at depth was 80f. surface was also 80f.
Still a shortie wet suit feels good and the boat ride back is chilly enough for a light jacket.
