FAIRYTALE CHARACTERS TO COME TO LIFE AT BURRELL BOOM METHODIST SCHOOL READING CARNIVAL
In an effort to promote a love of reading at an early age, children, parents and community members have been invited by the award-winning Burrell Boom Methodist Primary school (BBMS), to come and enjoy the fun of their community reading carnival to be held in beautiful Burrell Boom Village on Saturday November 12th, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. Participants attending the fair and parade are encouraged to come dressed up as their favorite fairytale character!
Held under the theme: “Reading - the foundation of our Community,” the fair promises bright costumes, lively music, good food and a spectacular procession through the streets of Burrell Boom. Activities will include: Bounce house, face painting, a beauty salon for kids, raffles, picture taking and much more!
Reading coordinator and teacher Ms. Dawn Flowers stated that the objective is to increase parent, family and community involvement in education, and to bring in much needed funds to purchase material to enhance and foster the love of reading. She continued to explain that “many studies have shown that when parents and families are involved in their children's schools, their children do better. When local community members become involved in schools, they can act as role models and mentors and provide an additional layer of support and inspiration for students and teachers.”
As far as the weather for that day, Ms. Flowers said “We have arranged the weather to be sunny and hot so be sure to come along and have fun suitable for the whole family.”
