We've heard mixed information as to whether or not bicycles are charged for going over the bridge.

The sign at the pay station says bicycles pay $2 bzd, but we've heard people say that bicycles are free.

Can anyone clear this up for us?

Thanks.

If you are a local it is free for bikes.

When we first moved here we told the folks working at the bridge that we lived here, and they've seen us for long enough now (nearly four months) to know that it's true. One man who didn't know us tried to charge me a couple of times, but I just kept on riding and told him I lived here, and he hasn't bothered me since.

I got a bottle of Boone's Farm wine in a christmas package and decided it would be better appreciated by the guy at the bridge.
Its amazing how it changed the attitude!

We haven't been charged yet, but did get stopped and questioned about living here, so I thought I'd get my info straight before blatantly not paying.

I don't even think it's fair to charge tourists to take bicycles over the bridge. Bikes are non-motorized, not heavy and don't provide wear and tear on the bridge more than walking across it.

But whatever, I'm happy to know I don't have to pay.

I completely agree! They should be happy that people are biking across the bridge rather than driving across it, which does cause more wear and tear. To encourage more biking, they could easily drop the fee, which is a subject of confusion anyway (ergo, your initial question). The bridge has already been paid for, and current fees paid by taxis and carts should be plenty to pay for its maintenance.
